Social Links Block

Social Link is a Moodle block that enables fast sharing of course content and resources to external websites, social media platforms, messaging services, and collaboration tools. Providing quick access to link copying and social sharing tools.

(Intended to be compatible with Moodle 4.5+, Moodle 5.1.4+, Moodle 5.2+)

Features

Supports link clipboarding and social sharing widgets for several social media providers, including:

  • Facebook
  • X
  • LinkedIn
  • WhatsApp
  • Telegram
  • Email
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Reddit
  • Bluesky 

Several page scopes can be specified for the copied link used, allowing from refined control over the page being shared:

  • Current Page – Share the exact page being viewed.
  • Site Root – Direct users to the Moodle homepage.
  • Current Course – Share access to a specific course.
  • Current Module – Link directly to a particular activity or resource.

The block offers several configuration options that enable admins and course creators to tailor the sharing experience to their requirements:

  • Custom block titles
  • Introductory text displayed within the block
  • Additional text accompanying shared links
  • Available sharing providers
  • Horizontal or vertical widget layout

Automatically generates draft messages containing Moodle links and opens the selected sharing provider with a pre-filled post ready to be shared from the user’s active account, useful for teachers / administrators to share course material on Moodle externally to social media platforms or messaging services.

Privacy

The social link block stores block-instance data set by administrators, no personal data is retained by using the social media provider links, upon clicking a link user will be redirected to third parties which will make use of in browser and session data (such as default messages, current web page)
